What is the StormHawk Academic Award?

Chaska Chanhassen Hockey Association strongly believes it is important to recognize the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes. We feel we have the responsibility as well as the opportunity to encourage our athletes to set and achieve academic goals and earn recognition for their accomplishments.

This event recognizes CCHA players at the Squirt/10U, Peewee/12U, Bantam/15U and Jr. Gold levels who have maintained a 3.0 GPA or the equivalent of a 3.0 for some elementary schools, over the course of the season. More details will be communicated as we get closer to the grade submission deadline.

This event celebrates academic success, and your child will be recognized on stage alongside their teammates who have also achieved this award.  We will hear from a few special guests. A highlight throughout the event is a live raffle drawing for prizes ranging from gift cards, gift baskets, hockey training equipment and sticks.   The kiddos LOVE this part.

Who is Eligible?

All CCHA players at the Squirt/10U, PeeWee/12U, Bantam/15, and Jr Gold levels, who maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale (B average or ML average for Elementary School students) qualify during the season.

Below are guidelines on how to verify a student's grades:

  • 1st semester report card for schools on semesters (Middle and High schools in District 112)
  • 2nd trimester for schools on trimesters (including Elementary schools in District 112)
  • For other grading timeframes, please provide the recent report card showing qualifying grades during the hockey season.
  • If you need assistance accessing your student's report card, please contact their school.
  • We are happy to consider other learning environments, such as home schooling or alternative grading periods with written confirmation of academic success from a parent or teacher.

Donations and Sponsors

This special evening for student athletes doesn't happen without a lot of time and effort from volunteers, sponsors, and donors. We could use your help in collecting some additional prizes and donations to help make this a great night for the kids.  Any donation is much appreciated.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. If you are involved in one of our local businesses and are able to donate logo wear, gift cards or larger prizes or would like to sponsor the StormHawk Awards as a business, please reach out to sponsor_ccha@cchockey.org
  2. Donate funds and prizes individually or consider donating your team's remaining slush fund. Slush fund and personal donations over the last few seasons has given meaningful dollars to help with the StormHawk Awards raffle prizes.

Please notify the Awards Coordinator at stormhawk.awards@cchockey.org of your donation or if you have questions.

Checks can be made out to CCHA  StormHawk Awards.

Thank you for your generosity!!

2023 CCHA StormHawk Awards

On March 18, 2024, our association held the 26th annual Stormhawk Awards. This was our largest group of award winners in our history, 310 hockey players in our association were recognized for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above during the hockey season.Congratulations!

We would like to thank those that help to make this year a success. A special thank you to the coaches who help present the awards to their teams. Players were rewarded with fantastic raffle prizes such as Air Pods, Sauce Toss, Gopher hockey tickets, game stick from Ericksson Ek, top-of-the-line Bauer hockey stick, amazing hockey related gift baskets, autographed jersey from the Wild team, and a lot more.  These incredible prizes were made possible by the generous donations from our event sponsors, local businesses, and CCHA families and CCHA teams who donated their excess slush funds.  These prizes added to the event, making it even more exciting and memorable.

A special highlight this year was a collaboration video. Thank you to all that sent these amazing messages to our players. You will be able to watch the video and see photo highlights on the StormHawks page on CCHA’s website.

Finally, a huge shout out to all the people who helped make this event possible by sharing their time and talents both before and during the event. As a community, we successfully honored and celebrated these hard-working student-athletes!

If you have any feedback or suggestions for next year or would like to be involved in next year’s event in some way, please let the coordinators know by emailing us at  stormhawk.awards@cchockey.org

Thank you to the many wonderful sponsors and donors who make the StormHawk Awards possible through their donations.
